AS Roma were one of several clubs who were interested in signing Chelsea youngster Tyrique George over the summer.
George saw his move to Fulham collapse on deadline day, but before that happened it was Roma and RB Leipzig chasing the winger.
According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, even Manchester United discussed George when they were in negotiations with Chelsea over the sale of Alejandro Garnacho.
In the end, though, the 19-year-old remained at Stamford Bridge and will now have to compete against Garnacho for a place in Enzo Maresca‘s team.

AS Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini had doubts about Tyrique George
Before Fulham came in for him, Roma and Leipzig were battling for George’s signature.
However, Romano has revealed that Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini was not too sure about the Chelsea academy product.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer expert said: “Roma went very strong on the deal with several meetings, with several discussions. But my understanding is that Roma manager Gasperini was not so sure about the possibility of bringing that kind of super young player to Roma. And so the deal collapsed for Tyrique George with all these clubs.”
Despite Chelsea putting George in the shop window, he still played in their 2-0 win against Fulham.
George was brought on following Liam Delap’s injury, which could keep the striker out for a while. There are fears that Delap’s injury is worse than first thought and that he could be sidelined for more than two months.
Chelsea have now recalled Marc Guiu, so you would expect him to cover for Joao Pedro in Delap’s absence, rather than George.

How Tyrique George feels about failed Fulham transfer
Unfortunately for George, who could have got more minutes at Roma or Fulham, he is set to continue as a bit-part player under Maresca.
It is believed that George is sad about what happened on deadline day, with a transfer to Fulham nearly completed.
George was not the only Chelsea player who failed to get a transfer on Monday. Raheem Sterling also finds himself stuck at Cobham.
However, unlike George, Sterling will not be part of the first team, putting him in a much worse predicament than his teammate. He was someone who definitely needed a move.
