Chelsea have been heavily linked with a swoop for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons this month, but will he move to the Premier League for the first time in his career?
Xavi Simons, 22, is a talented attacking midfielder who’s impressed in the last couple of years at Leipzig. He’s now tipped with a potential transfer to Chelsea, though.
Simons wants to leave Leipzig this summer, where he’s scored 21 goals in 76 appearances. Apparently, the agents of Simons have spoken with Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham about a summer switch.
Fans have been encouraged by reports that Simons would love to join Chelsea. Incidentally, Leipzig are prepared to sell Simons for around £60m, which we think is a fair reflection of the current state of the transfer market.

Xavi Simons has heart set on joining Chelsea
It’s been claimed that German heavyweights Bayern Munich are interested in signing Simons, but their current focus is on Liverpool winger Luis Diaz.
According to Football.London, Simons has always ‘dreamed’ of joining Chelsea because he was an avid follower of the London giants when he was growing up.
It is explained that the versatile attacker even had a trial at Cobham as a child. Even though nothing ever materialised with that, he could finally end up in West London if the Blues can negotiate a transfer with Leipzig.
The report adds that Chelsea will soon commence club-to-club talks with Leipzig for the Netherlands international because personal terms are ‘extremely close’ to completion.
Bayern’s interest in signing Simons has been mentioned again, but the individual is intent on moving to Stamford Bridge.
| Team | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| RB Leipzig | 76 | 21 | 23 |
| PSV Eindhoven | 48 | 22 | 11 |
| Paris Saint-Germain | 11 | 0 | 1 |
| Netherlands | 28 | 5 | 4 |

Xavi Simons would be superb weapon for Enzo Maresca
Like we’ve seen at Chelsea, head coach Enzo Maresca definitely values individuals with versatility. It’s why the Simons transfer rumours don’t feel that surprising.
The Dutchman has proven he can be a major attacking threat as a winger or a central No.10 playmaker.
If he joins, we would expect to see Simons compete with Jamie Gittens for the starting position on the left wing, where he would naturally drift infield. Alternatively, he could play in a central attacking spot if Cole Palmer moves over to the right or is rested.
Chelsea haven’t quite had things go their way with the signings of Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner from Leipzig across recent years, so let’s hope it’s third time lucky with Simons.
